The First Appearance of Batman Sells for Over a Million Dollars!

by Aaron Einhorn
Earlier this week we mentioned that a copy of Action Comics 1, rated at an 8.0 by the CGC, had sold for an even million dollars at an auction. Action Comics 1, of course, is the first appearance of Superman.

Well, as seems to always be the case, in defiance of much logic, Batman has beaten Superman again. According to a report from the AP, yesterday at auction, a copy of Detective Comics 27, also rated an 8.0 by the CGC, sold for $1,000,075.

Yep, Batman’s first appearance beat Superman’s by seventy five dollars. Of course, when you’re spending a million dollars on a comic, how much difference does an extra $75 really make?

The interesting thing is that until this week, no comic (including other copies of Action 1 and Detective 27 had even broken the half-million dollar mark. And now there have been two in one week.

The scary thing is that there’s an even better quality copy of Action Comics 1 floating around out there…
