It seems like only yesterday that Marvel announced that the sequel for Captain America would be titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier during Comic Con.
Ok, I guess it was actually two days ago.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that Sebastian Stan, who played Bucky in Captain America: The First Avenger is set to return as Bucky/The Winter Soldier in the new film, and this has now been confirmed by enough movie news sites that I think we can all safely assume it and move on. Especially since Stan was signed to the same six-picture deal that Chris Evans was. And why do you sign someone you plan on killing off in the first film, a film that takes place sixty years in the past at that, to a six-picture deal?
Because you plan on bringing him back. Duh.
So, if Sebastian Stan’s return is no surprise, why are we writing an article? Because of the other superhero I mentioned in the headline – the Falcon.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Anthony Mackie is in negotiations to star alongside Chris Evans in the new film to be directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed any details yet, but the smart money is on Mackie portraying Sam “Snap” Wilson, aka The Falcon. The Falcon is one of comics’ first black superheroes, and has a long history working with both Cap and S.H.I.E.L.D. And with Mackie’s star on the rise after his turn in The Hurt Locker, putting him in place as the Falcon would be a very smart move.
