Since they released the first issue, Avengers Assemble has pretty much been Marvel’s “we’ll use this to draw in people who watched The Avengers comic. This makes a great deal of sense – there’s no reason that the 5.6 billion people who watched The Avengers couldn’t be enticed into reading a comic, and it’s good to give them a book they’ll immediately identify with. (Ok, maybe it wasn’t quite that many folks. But the point still stands.)
So, with Thanos showing his purple mug in the stinger scene of The Avengers (the movie has been out for over two months now, it is no longer my job to keep you away from spoilers), and the Cosmic Cube Tesseract being featured prominently in both Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, it makes sense that the comics would want to mash Thanos with that reality-altering artifact.
Cue the above teaser for Avengers Assemble #7. Ok, sure, Thanos is typically either in possession of, or pursuing the Infinity Gauntlet, but is there any reason that he couldn’t go after the Cosmic Cube instead? Of course not.
Avengers Assemble #7, by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, is scheduled for release on Sept. 12.
