Cliff Roberston, who is probably best known to comic fans for his portrayal of Uncle Ben Parker from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, passed away on Saturday, September 10, one day after celebrating his 88th birthday, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Robertson had a long and distinguished career in both film and on-stage, beginning his career as a contract player at Columbia in the 1950s. Roberston earned acclaimed and notice for his performance of a young JFK in PT-109, taking on the role of Hugh Hefner in Star 80, and the role he won an Oscar for, that of Charly Gordon in Charly.
Additionally, Robertson had extensive television and stage credits, with over 100 roles to his resume.
With great power must also come great responsibility, and with a long and beloved career in the performing arts must also come great respect. We wish the best to Cliff Robertson’s friends and family.
