I’ll confess that while I was initially intrigued by the promise of DC’s Wednesday Comics, which received tons of acclaim last summer, I quickly lost interest in the series. While I appreciated the idea behind the format, I found reading the comics in the full-page newsprint format to be kind of a pain, and the stories were – generally speaking – only somewhat interesting to me.
Still, the series was a hit, and now is being printed as an oversize (11” x 17.5”) hardcover collection, which will maintain the original display size of the series – although it will let you read the stories altogether, instead of at the rate of one page a week.
Wednesday Comics HC will hit shelves on May 26, 2010, and will retail for $49.95. The full press release from DC is below.
In May, DC Comics will collect Wednesday Comics, last summer’s acclaimed weekly series, in a spectacular, oversized hardcover packed with bonus material including two previously unpublished pages and more.
Running 200 pages at 11″x17.5″, and printed on 60 pound matte coated paper similar to that used for the JLA Deluxe Edition HCs, the Wednesday Comics HC collects:
Adam Strange written and illustrated by Paul Pope
Batman written by Brian Azzarello with art by Eduardo Risso including never-before-seen panel art on each page!
Metamorpho written by Neil Gaiman with art by Michael Allred
Deadman written by Dave Bullock and Vinton Heuck with art by Dave Bullock
The Demon and Catwoman written by Walter Simonson with art by Brian Stelfreeze
The Flash written by Karl Kerschl and Brenden Fletcher with art by Karl Kerschl

The hardcover also features two previously unpublished pages – one starring The Creeper (written by Keith Giffen with art by Eric Canete) and one starring Plastic Man (written by Evan Dorkin with art by Stephen DeStefano)! And, as if that weren’t enough, this can’t-miss collection includes a 10-page sketchbook section with art from each illustrator, plus an intro by series editor Mark Chiarello!
The Wednesday Comics HC is on Final Order Cutoff on Thursday, January 7. It is scheduled to arrive in stores on May 26 with a cover price of $49.99 US.
