Batman: Year One Trailer Arrives

by Aaron Einhorn
Ask a group of Batman fans what their favorite Batman film is, and you’ll hear a surprisingly large number list one of the animated versions. Why is that? Perhaps because Bruce Timm and company have really managed to capture lightning in a bottle with the DC Animated Universe.

Similarly, ask people what their favorite Batman comic arc is, and you’ll get a lot people saying Batman: Year One.

So now that the two are coming together, the results should be magical, right?

Judge for yourself – thanks to the first trailer for Batman: Year One, thanks to MTV’s Splashpage.

Based on the acclaimed 1987 story arc by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, Batman: Year One recounts the beginning of Bruce Wayne’s career as the Dark Knight and Jim Gordon’s with the Gotham City Police Department as the two grapple with violence, corruption and crime boss Carmine “The Roman” Falcone.

Directed by Sam Liu and Lauren Montgomery, the PG-13 film stars Ben McKenzie as Bruce Wayne, Bryan Cranston as James Gordon, Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle, Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Essen, and Alex Rocco as Carmine Falcone.

The latest entry in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series will be released on Oct. 18 for DVD, Blu-ray, On Demand and digital download. Batman: Year One will also be accompanied by a Catwoman short, also featuring Eliza Dushku. Expect to see a premiere for Batman: Year One at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con.

It’s nice to be reminded of a time when I liked Frank Miller’s writing. I’m looking forward to this.
