Ok, so I’ll start off this news by saying “No, I haven’t seen The Dark Knight Rises yet.” My wife was out of town, and I’d rather see it with her than without her. So sue me.
That said, one of the things that makes me most willing to see the film is Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Why? Because she’s a great actress, she’s obviously enthusiastic about the character, and she’s gorgeous.
Leading up to the release of the movie, director Christopher Nolan had said that he thought Anne’s Catwoman deserved her own movie. Which begs the question, what does Anne think of the possibility?
Speaking to Digital Spy, Ms. Hathaway answered with a qualified yes.
“I think it would be lovely to see more of her but only if it’s with the right people,” Hathaway said. “She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.”

What do I think of this? Well, again, I haven’t actually seen Anne’s performance in The Dark Knight Rises yet. But I do know that I love her as an actress, and think it’d be great to see her stay with the character. That said, my complaint about Nolan’s vision of Batman has always been that it’s too dark, too grim, and doesn’t allow for a world where other superheroes exist. If DC/Warner Brothers want to start building a cinematic universe to rival Marvel’s, they need to get away from Nolan’s version – and if Anne is only willing to reprise Catwoman under Nolan? Well, then I’d rather not see such a film get made.
Of course, if The Dark Knight Rises rivals it’s predecessor’s box office, don’t be surprised if Warner Brothers makes Nolan an offer he can’t refuse…
